Virat Kohli Poised to Join Elite 27,000-Run Club in IND vs BAN 2nd Test

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is on the verge of achieving a historic milestone in the upcoming IND vs BAN 2nd Test. The Indian cricket superstar is set to become only the 4th player in history to surpass 27,000 international runs. Known as one of the greatest batters of this generation, Kohli has consistently shattered records across all formats of the game.

When cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar suggested that Kohli could be the one to break his records, it seemed far-fetched. However, with each passing day, Kohli inches closer to that reality. He recently surpassed Tendulkar's record for the most centuries in ODIs, amassing 50 hundreds in the format.

Now, as India faces Bangladesh in the 2nd Test in Kanpur on September 27, Kohli needs just 35 runs to reach another remarkable landmark. With 26,965 runs already under his belt, scoring these 35 runs will elevate him to the elite 27,000-run club in international cricket. This prestigious list includes cricketing legends such as:

  1. Sachin Tendulkar– 34,357 runs
  2. Kumar Sangakkara – 28,016 runs
  3. Ricky Ponting – 27,483 runs

Kohli, currently fourth on the list, will join these giants of the game, surpassing notable names like Mahela Jayawardene (25,957) and Jacques Kallis (25,534).

However, Kohli will be aiming not only for this milestone but also to return to form. He struggled in the 1st Test against Bangladesh, scoring just 6 and 17 runs in the two innings. This was his first red-ball appearance since March, when he last played against England. As he takes the field in Kanpur, fans will be hoping to see Kohli at his best, breaking records and dominating the game once again.
