Today’s Google Doodle pays tribute to the late singer KK, commemorating the anniversary of his debut as a playback singer on October 25, 1996, with the iconic song “Chhod Aaye Hum” from the film Maachis.
Born on August 23, 1968, in Delhi, KK (Krishnakumar Kunnath) pursued his education at Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. Before diving into music full-time, he initially worked in marketing. In 1994, KK sent a demo tape to prominent Indian artists, which led to his first performances in commercial jingles.
KK’s official entry into Hindi cinema came in 1999 with the powerful track “Tadap Tadap” from the blockbuster film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. That same year, he released his debut album, Pal, featuring several hit songs that catapulted him into the limelight.
Throughout his remarkable three-decade career, KK recorded approximately 3,500 jingles in 11 languages, showcasing his incredible versatility. He became one of the most sought-after artists in Indian cinema, singing over 500 songs in Hindi and more than 200 songs in regional languages, including Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam. His captivating voice and unique style have left an indelible mark on the Indian music industry.
